About a month ago I e-mailed you in regards to proper setup of the “Widgit” on my MTB. I had concerns of the install, because I was planning on using that setup for a 24 hr Mountain bike race that I was competing in, In Texas.
Well I am happy to say, the install was an absolute breeze as you had said, I had maybe 30kms total on this setup before I started the race. I am happy to say that this system was absolutely flawless, I was the only rider with this system , and I believe it gave me an edge due to the weight savings, no mechanical failures from having a front derailleur, the strain of always moving the front ring to find the right gear. The chain never jumped a gear, I only had to oil my chain twice in this race. That was not because of poor shifting but due to the dust build up on the chain, it was incredible.
My results were - 2nd place overall - 21 laps completed on the course equalling ,320kms in the driest dustiest conditions I have ever competed in. 95+F degrees of heat. I rode the course only once prior to racing on it.
I am competing in the 24hrs of Adrenalin as a soloist in 2012 ( Canmore, Alberta Canada)
I am also prequalified to race the World solo championships in 2012 as well and am also racing that event. I will plan on purchasing several “widgit” rings in the spring so I can dial in my setup closer to the race date, The conditions are too cold to do this now, as we are expecting snow any day there.

Thanks for the great service sending the Widget. I'm very happy with it, so good to get rid of all that unnecessary complexity and weight, it went on in a few minutes, rides great and looks a treat on my Stumpy.
Cheers and thanks again. Jim Robertson, Rouse Hill, NSW (June 2011) |

Problem solved!! I've been trying to build up my 2011 race bike and had it all dialed in minus the front chainring and chain guide. I wanted a light, carbon 29er racer built up 1x9, so I decided on the niner carbon Air 9. I soon learned that matching a front chain guide with the BB30 and flared seat tube was going to be a problem. I tried the MRP, which worked well on my previous GXP styled BB, but wouldn't work with the new BB30. Everything else just wasn't matching up, so I looked to the internet. Someone tipped me off to your website and the Widget. Ordering from MTB29.com was awesome. Within 2 days I had my final piece to complete my bike. I am now approximately 100 miles and several incredible rides into using the widget without one complaint or dropped chain. I can't wait to race with the widget 1x9 set up this year. Thanks!

It has been about 3 or 4 months now since I converted over to the Widget single front chain ring and it has been the best thing I could have ever done. It isn't about saving precious kilos for me because I ride a Reynolds Steel frame hardtail anyway, so it already weighs more than most current dual suspension bikes. For me its about performance out on that tight single track, when you come around a tight bend and look up and there's a set of triple logs screaming out "go on have a go your not set up for it are ya", well now with the widget single ring all that go's away because before you even get around the corner you know your set up the take on anything. Due to being set up with only a 9 speed to think about you can focus on all your surroundings, which means for me looking further through the trail so you can see what’s coming up well before you hit the hard stuff. When you running a 9 speed you only 1 shifter and only 9 gears on the back end, so that simplifies things for me perfectly. It has completely changed the whole concept of the way I’m now riding and flowing through those tight sections a lot faster. As for the hilly section its a matter of the size chain ring your after for where your riding most of the time. My local stomping grounds are, Daisy, the Gap, and Castle Hill/Ippy, I found the 32 tooth for me just eats those trails up and spits them out. To some it up, AWESOME. Good boys, great Aussie product that’s practical and looks the part, Cheers. Lenny MORONEY (October 2010) |

Congratulations to my teamates Matty and Callum for their recent effort in the 2010 Inferno 6 hour race held at Old Hidden Vale (OHV). We ended up punching out 11 laps overall, taking out 2nd place in the Mixed 3 section. The Widgits never missed a beat on terrific coarse with a mixture a fast single track and a enduring climb up Old Man's Schlong to start each lap - Top effort boys! Thanks - Paul (April 2010) |

Pic of me on the Stumpjumper at the recent 4Hr event at Hollybank near Launceston.
Widgit ran perfectly all day and we got 6th overall in the teams category. I have given the poor thing an absolute flogging with 2 trips to a spot on the North Coast where Sand, Quartz and Mud not to mention 3-4 river crossings are all part of the adventure, never had a problem. The guide rings have a good quantity of smash marks in them where rock drops and the like have met with the chain ring. Can’t seem to break it. Will be purchasing a spare soon. I have the 34 tooth Widgit and I am never going back!! I like that it saves me some weight on my bike but mostly it is just the reduction in stuff that can fail! I don’t have any skipping gears and there is now only one changer to worry about! This photo is from the Chase the Sun Series - 5 hour Enduro at the commonwealth games circuit in Lysterfield Vic! Thanks for all your help on the phone, my new Wigits arrived in the post the day after talking to you even sending though to Victoria!! Keep up the good work!

Hi Paul, I ran the widgit at the 3 hour 3 + 3 race on Saturday night at OHV. The track was a little different from the enduro and had a lot of rocks etc and a couple of down hill jumps/rock shoots that were quite hard core. I was a real MTB track and they had built a couple of fantastic high speed berms towards the end of the course. The 32 tooth Widgit performed flawlessly. I didn’t notice any rubbing in the top or bottom gears. I didn’t miss the small or big ring on the front, just glad they are gone now and a little extra weight has been saved. I think the best thing I could say about the Widgit was that I didn’t even think about it, or notice it. It just went about doing its job & left me to pedal my heart out.

I always wanted to go for a single chainring, but with other manufacturers only offering 32T or larger this was never going to happen in the hilly area where I reside. So when I stumbled upon the Widgit on one of the forums I figured why not give it a go. Well, I must say what a great product, wasn't too sure if I had the strength to push a 30T so I went for a 28T. After 800km I now feel I have the strength and I'm ready for a 30T. The Widgit is perfect for my style of riding and I also dropped 350g in weight. Now that's a BONUS!
